C64 Use as an Indicator of Mental Illness
…The kidnapper “relied exclusively on a Commodore 64 computer — a model popular in the 1980s but now considered an antique.
Lang told reporters the outmoded computer would complicate investigators’ efforts to transfer files for closer examination later, saying it would be difficult “to transmit the data to a modern computer without loss.”
It’s sad when we don’t remember how to load cartridges and retrieve the data on them…

Or…….that we don’t have C64 cartridge loaders with USB ports and drivers for modern OSs? Which is 100% understandable? Sheesh, dude. It’s not a matter of remembering how to load them, it’s a matter of not having compatible hardware or software. I don’t even know what filesystem C64 cartridges used, or whether there are drivers available to mount them, even if the hardware issues are taken care of. They’ll probably have to communicate with the C64 somehow, some serial port connection and hacked-together driver.

Dan, I’m sorry, but you don’t know what you’re talking about. All they need is one of the kidnapper’s disk drives (presumably a 1541), a parallel to Commodore IEC adaptor ($30 on eBay, even in 2006), and The Star Commander (free on the web.)
